Family Finds Amazing Letters After Daughters Death

A 6 year old girl who recently died of brain cancer had left hundreds of letters around her house addressed to her parents which were found recently after her death. The girl was told she would have 135 days to live, and she began writing letters, and hiding them all over her house in books, plates, china, and pretty much any place she could think of. Her father, Keith Desserich, decided to write a book called “Notes Left Behind, 135 Days with Elena.” The book contains most of the letters she left behind. It goes on sale this weekend, and all proceeds will go toward cancer research.

Mets Get Big Boost

The New York Mets have signed record setting closer Francisco Rodriguez to a three year $37 million contract, who recorded 62 saves last season with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim which was a single season record. This is a relative bargain for the Mets, who were in desperate need of a closer after losing Billy Wagner to a possible career threatening elbow injury last season. Francisco was rumored to be seeking at least a 5 year deal worth up to $15 million per season, but with the current economic problems, the glut of very capable closers on the free agent market, and the lack of teams in need of them he settled for this deal.

Sox Sign Pedroia to Major Bargain

The Boston Red Sox have signed their young star shortstop, and reigning AL MVP to a 6 year, $40.5 million contract extension. At first glance you may wonder how that much money can be a bargain. However, in a league where 9 figure deals are thrown out all over the place, this is a major bargain for a budding superstar like Dustin Pedroia. In just his third major league season he won the Silver slugger award, for best hitting 2nd baseman, gold glove award, for best fielding second baseman, capped off by the MVP. Obviously, Pedroia wont be struggling financially by any stretch, but there is no doubt he took a major pay cut then he could have received on the open market to stay with the Sox.

Weis is Back

Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis has been told he will return to the headset next season following the programs second consecutive disappointing season. Seeing as how he had a good recruiting class for next season, a lack of a quality free agent coach to take his place next season, and the fact that he is only 3 years into his very lucrative 10 year contract that would have to be paid fully if he were to be fired, the school really didnt have much of a choice in making this decision. There had been truck loads of speculation on whether or not Weis would be retained. He was right there with former New England Patriots assistant coach Romeo Crennel who left the same year for a head coaching job with the Cleveland Browns, Crennel, however isn't expected to be as lucky.

Stupid Plax

New York Giants superstar wide receiver Plaxico Burress has been suspended 4 games by the NFL, and faces a minimum of 3 and a half years in prison on concealed weapon charges for his incident last friday outside of a New York night club. The receiver accidentally shot himself in the thigh with a .40 glock pistol outside of the club as he fumbled it trying to conceal it from bouncers. The lastest fiasco is likely the end for Plaxico as a New York Giant, whether or not he ever plays in the league again, who has been suspended numerous times for violating various team rules. The gunshot wound itself didnt cause much damage, and he was out of the hospital within 7 hours and has reportedly been walking fine and been laughing off the incident. He is not the only person under fire in the investigation however. Giants star linebacker Antonio Pierce is being investigated as he allegedly tried to hide the weapon after the incident. Also, the doctor who treated Burress has been suspended for not reporting the gunshot wound to police, which is a strict policy.

Nuggets Release Mcdyess

The Denver Nuggets have released forward Antonio Mcdyess one week after he was acquired along with Chauncey Billups in the blockbuster trade for Allen Iverson. Mcdyess is expected to re sign with the Pistons, even though it is rumored that over half of the teams in the league will be after him. The reason for this move was primarily so the Nuggets could save money, and Mcdyess reportedly wasn't particularly happy with the trade to the nuggets, particularly because he is still holding a grudge for how the team treated him when he left the Nuggets as a free agent in 2001. The only reason he was included in the trade was because the amount of salary going to each team had to match.

My Voting Experience

My voting experience was made very easy because i received a mail in ballot. I heard from most people that there were long lines everywhere, and im extremely happy i didn't have to deal with any of those myself. I never knew there was so much to vote on before i looked at my ballot, like all of the new amendments and such. Well im pretty glad that all of that is finally over. Not particularly happy about the outcome, but at least its over.

Cliff Lee Wins NL Cy Young Award

Cleveland Indians pitcher Cliff Lee has won the NL Cy Young award for best pitcher. This comes one year after he spent the majority of last season in the minors. Talk about coming out of nowhere. He is the second consecutive Indians pitcher to win the same award as former Indian C.C. Sabathia won it last season. He went 22-3 this season, which was tops in the majors, and was given 24 of the 28 first place votes. Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay came in second and record setting closer Francisco Rodrigues came in third. You can read this article at http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3700686.

Celebration in Philly

The Philadelphia Phillies have won the 2008 world series over the Tampa Bay Rays in a weather drawn out 5 games led by series MVP Cole Hamels. It is the first championship by a Philadelphia team since the Phillies last won it in 1980. Philadelphia sports teams have been known to come very close in recent years but never make it all the way, until now. This also marks the end of the Rays story book season that saw them go from the worst to the World Series. The final game was very unique in that it began on Monday, and was postponed in the middle of the 6th inning because of weather, and finished up the final 3 innings tonight, which the Phillies came out one run ahead.

No Candy From Sex Offenders

Convicted sex offenders in Maryland have been ordered to place this sticker on their front doors during Halloween, or they may face possible parole violations. The City has been setting out pamphlets to let all of the citizens know about these signs. This program started in 2005, and many counties around the country have been following suit.

Tragedy

19 year old New York Rangers prospect Alexei Cherepanov died of an apparent heart attack after collapsing on the bench during a game in Russia. Cherepanov had, by all accounts, a great future ahead of him with enough skill to become a top scorer in the NHL very soon. He was on the bench talking with former NHL superstar, and teammate of his, Jaromir Jagr, when he just collapsed with no sign whatsoever. He seemed perfectly fine, didn't receieve any hard hits during the game, and had no previous medical history to this point. This is extremely shocking given all the circumstances and unknown elements of this situation. It is very sad and goes to show you to never take life for granted because it could be over any second. Read this article. DO IT! http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/story/8672210/Rangers'-prospect-Cherepanov-dies-in-Russia

Photoshop Video

I will never look at magazine covers the same. This proves to me that the perfect body really is unachievable. I knew that models on magazine covers and such were altered, but i thought it was just in the way of makeup, lighting and that kind of thing, not just completely faking the appearance through the photoshop. A skillful person on that thing could make ME look like a model, and thats sayin somethin! Great models are hardly even necessary anymore as long as you have a good person to photoshop the images.

Reaction to the Fox News video

This video was very interesting to me because i had no idea about this. I dont watch fox all that much, but when i did i trusted everything on there 100 percent without question, and now i will definitely think twice about certain topics. I think that everyone in the country should watch that movie. The Fox network has such a great influence on the country because of their clever way of marketing there ideas to seem "Fair and Balanced," when in reality it's just the opposite, and the fact they reach more people than any other agency. I also think after watching that movie that Bill O' Reilly is an extreme a**hole, but in kind of a funny sort of way. Anyways, i thought the video was very informative and im happy I watched it.

Inmate cant be executed humanely because of prison food?

A death row inmate in Ohio blames the prison food for being a large contributor in his obesity which may cause problems in his execution. The man appeal claims that his obesity will make it difficult for the execution team to find a viable vein for injection. He is scheduled to die after he killed 2 students from Akron University. It is unlikely his appeals will actually make it anywhere. Check it out here http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27087744/

Pacman at it Again

Dallas Cowboys Cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones has again found himself in trouble with the law, and very likely with the NFL too. He reportedly got into a fight with a body guard in a Dallas hotel over the weekend. This is very sad news as it seemed as if he was back on track after his one year ban from the league for repeatedly getting into trouble with the law. To all accounts Adam has been a productive citizen, as well as a very productive and important player on the Cowboys. It will be interesting to see how the NFL deals with this situation, but they are likely to take it very seriously considering his past. check it out here. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3633432

Reaction to War of the Worlds

I found this quite interesting because of how real it sounded to me. I'm not surprised at all that 1 out of 12 people thought it to be true and were scared shitless, if anything im surprised it wasn't a bit of a higher percentage. The reason is mostly just because of all the things that were goin' on in the country at that time and how authentic the newscast actually sounded.

Reaction to Ratings System Movie

I had no idea about any of this. I didn't even know this was a controversial issue. The thing i find the most amazing by far is the fact that it's only one of two top secret organizations in the United States along with the CIA. The MPAA is nothing compared to the CIA, and in my opinion, i think the reason its so top secret is because they know that this system is very flawed and biased. I liked this video, and it brought to life a major issue to me that i had no idea about.

Justice

A suspect has finally been arrested for the drive-by shooting death of former Broncos Cornerback Darrent Williams after a dispute in a club between a few of the players and some gang members. The man, Willie Clark has long been a person of interest in this case, but there was just never enough evidence to charge him, until now. In addition to this, he has been hit with 39 unrelated charges. Its great to see somebody finally arrested for this tragic incident, and now they can pay for what they've done. To read this story visit the link at the end. I'd recommend it!http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3633246

horny high schoolers

At a school in Newark, Ohio, a 15 year old girl has been arrested on child pornography charges for sending fellow male students naked pictures of herself by way of cell phone. Authorities are also considering punishment for the boys who received the photos. This article appealed to me because over the years ive been around these situations more than a couple times, and i never thought of the possible consequences. I've never been apart of it of course however, just heard about it..... if you'd like to read this short article feel free http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27088910/

un necessary suicide

A police officer committed suicide after he inadvertantly killed a man with a taser. The assailant was attempting to flea police capture by running through his 3 story apartment building and standing in the window sill trying to repel the officers with an eight foot long flourescent lightbulb. Lieutenant Pigot eventually got frustrated and ordered officer Moralis to stun the man. The result of the taser completely paralyzed the man and fell to his death. As a result, the lieutenant who ordered the tase was demoted drastically, because under law you cant order a tase if theres a possibility of the assailent falling from deathly heights. Meanwhile the officer which actually pulled the trigger couldnt bear what he had done and committed suicide an hour before the man's funeral was held. This is very tragic, mostly because the officer committed suicide when he really had no choice but to follow his lieutenants orders. If you would like to read this article, check it out here: http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/10/02/taser.officer.dead.ap/index.html

obama slips

In this interview, Obama accidentally says he is of Muslim religion in what could be a major slip up that could potentially cause major obstacles on his presidential aspirations. The reasons why the slip happened can be interpreted differently, but it does cast a shadow of doubt regardless. Listen for yourself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQqIpdBOg6I

interestingness?

A man was orginally charged for battery on a police officer when he allegedly farted and fanned it toward the officer, had those charges dropped. The man, however, still faces four more charges. Thought it was kinda interesting so i thought id share. If you would like to check it out go here http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26877682/
