19 year old New York Rangers prospect Alexei Cherepanov died of an apparent heart attack after collapsing on the bench during a game in Russia. Cherepanov had, by all accounts, a great future ahead of him with enough skill to become a top scorer in the NHL very soon. He was on the bench talking with former NHL superstar, and teammate of his, Jaromir Jagr, when he just collapsed with no sign whatsoever. He seemed perfectly fine, didn't receieve any hard hits during the game, and had no previous medical history to this point. This is extremely shocking given all the circumstances and unknown elements of this situation. It is very sad and goes to show you to never take life for granted because it could be over any second. something similar happened to jiri fischer a couple years ago. He was a great skater. He was a big guy but could skate with the best of them. He was also one of my favorite players and I devestated when I found out he'd never play. he still skates once in a while and is still part of the Red Wing franchise. But it's a shame that these players will no longer be able to play.
